Shots fired as shoplifters attempt to run down officer

FAIR LAWN - Some shoplifters are under arrest tonight after allegedly trying to run over a Fair Lawn police sergeant.

Sgt. Mike Messina says he responded to a shoplifting call at a Walgreens Pharmacy when he was almost run over by the suspects who were trying to flee the scene.

Investigators say either Messina or another officer on scene opened fire on the fleeing suspects.

According to police, the shoplifters did get away and they are still investigating the incident.
