BELMAR - The Sandy-ravaged beach towns of the Jersey Shore are moving quickly to defend their shores from coastal flooding from today’s Nor’easter.
In Belmar, officials are building 6-foot tall walls of sand along Ocean Avenue. The walls will cover the entire 1.2-mile length of Belmar’s beachfront.
Sandy destroyed the boardwalk, leaving homes and businesses vulnerable to wind and water damage.
For extra safety, public works crews are turning on the pumps at Lake Como to reduce the water level. Lake Como and Silver Lake both rose and flooded area homes during Sandy.
