Towns along the Jersey Shore are bolstering security measures in response to the pipe bomb explosion Saturday morning in Seaside Park.

Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty says the town's Department of Public Works has inspected and cleared all garbage cans in light of the explosion.

Doherty added that Belmar is increasing its police presence immediately.

A number of nearby events have also been cancelled this weekend, including Belmar’s Feast of San Gennaro.

In Point Pleasant, thousands of people were expected at a seafood festival, which was also canceled.

As News 12 has reported, a pipe bomb was detonated in a garbage can as a military benefit 5K race was set to begin in Seaside Park. Investigators say at least two or three other devices were wired to the pipe bomb, but failed to detonate.

No one was injured, but the blast sparked a four-block evacuation, and residents of Seaside Park were ordered to shelter in place. All inbound traffic into Seaside Park was halted and only outbound travel was permitted.

No arrests have been made and the FBI is leading the investigation into the pipe bomb blast.
