SEASIDE HEIGHTS - The Fourth of July holiday usually means big money for businesses at the Jersey Shore.

Jersey Shore towns like Seaside Heights and Belmar are reporting the three-day weekend brought a lot of money and thousands of visitors this year.

Many business owners in Seaside Heights say part of the success this season has been promotion by borough officials.

"They're doing a very good job of promoting the town," says Peter Jarkezian, owner of the One of a Kind clothing shop.

Attendance at several other Jersey Shore communities saw an increase. Belmar's attendance was up 29,000 visitors from last year. Manasquan saw 3,700 more visitors.

Seaside Heights officials say they've decided to give back to some of the visitors by changing some of the beach badge rules.

Under the new rules, anyone who purchases a beach badge and has to leave the beach due to rain, will be allowed back the next day for free.

The rainy day rule is expected to be approved at the Seaside Heights Borough Council meeting on July 15.
