Shoppers urged to restock the shelves at local pantries

Organizers of the 21st annual Action Against Hunger food drive in north Jersey say they hope to put a dent in the shortage at local

EDISON - Organizers of the 21st annual Action Against Hunger food drive in north Jersey say they hope to put a dent in the shortage at local food pantries by encouraging residents to donate.

Volunteers at approximately 100 locations across the area are collecting donations or cash from grocery store shoppers as they exit the stores.

Erwin Vogelman, director of food resources at the Center for Food Action in Saddle Brook, says the need is up and donations are down this fall. It?s the same elsewhere as well.

Volunteers say their efforts seemed slower this year than in previous years.
