TRENTON - Neighbors are calling for more police following a shootout near a Trenton playground Sunday.

The park on Laurel Avenue has become littered with the remnants of bags commonly used to hold drugs such as marijuana and heroin. Trenton Councilwoman Kathy McBride is asking Gov. Chris Christie for a more significant police presence, even if it means bringing officers in from other jurisdictions.

McBride says the shooting Sunday involved a group of men hanging around the park who then began to argue before gunfire broke out.

There have been eight shootings in Trenton so far this month. Two of them were fatal.

Christie has not yet responded to a call from News 12 New Jersey to comment on McBride's request.
