LONG BRANCH - A shark was spotted off the coast of Long Branch on Friday, leaving beachgoers buzzing with fear and awe.

It has been confirmed that at least one 5 foot shark was spotted in the waters at the pier village in Long Branch, but there were also two very large stingrays with a 5- or 6- foot wingspan spotted as well.

Earlier this afternoon, lifeguards spotted a disturbance about 100 yards from shore, some splashing coming from underwater. They took kayaks to investigate, and found two large stingrays and the shark.

People were out of the water for about a half hour, but were allowed back in once the area was clear.
