MENDHAM TOWNSHIP - Gov. Chris Christie is among thousands of New Jersey residents dealing with the aftermath of severe weather that rolled through the state.

A thunderstorm apparently caused damage to the governor's Mendham Township neighborhood on Thursday, including knocking down trees in front of his home.

Christie and his wife walked outside to inspect the damage and he gave a thumbs down when asked if they had power.

There were reports of damage all over the state. A tree also came down on a home in Livingston. No one was injured in that incident. Several lanes of Interstate 287 in Morristown were closed after a tree fell across the road.

Several people were injured when a tree branch fell on them in Rahway River Park. They were taken to the hospital, but are expected to be OK.

The weather also badly damaged a barn on a farm located along Route 519 in White Township.

In Oxford Township, an 18-year-old lifeguard escaped serious injury after he was indirectly struck by lightning.

A home under construction in Fort Lee caught fire after it was also struck by lightning.

Electric companies said that the storms knocked out power to thousands of customers. Utility crews were working to restore power to all residents.

The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
