SOUTH RIVER - Severe weather moving through parts of the state Thursday afternoon caused damage to homes and other properties in the Garden State.

In Sayreville, 1,500 customers lost power during the storm.

Lightning-related fires were reported in Passaic, South Hackensack and a house was damaged by a lightning strike in Summit.

Some roads in Monmouth and Middlesex counties were covered in floodwater, but the waters have since receded.
