READINGTON - Severe weather caused major damage around parts of New Jersey today, including a lightning strike that ripped off the siding and burned the side of a building in Readington.

"We were just sitting at the table, and we just heard a loud thunder with a quick flash," said homeowner Paul Crivello. "My wife said, I think it struck our place."

The storm caused many people in Hunterdon County to lose power, and forced some residents to evacuate temporarily.

Other parts of New Jersey also suffered power outages.

As of 10 p.m., JCP&L is reporting more than 10,500 outages throughout New Jersey.

PSE&G was working to restore power to about about 3,000 customers.
