EDISON - Some schools in New Jersey closed early Wednesday because of the high temperatures.

Schools in Trenton, Hamilton and Clifton sent students home after a half day because it was determined that the weather made it unsafe to continue lessons.

Most of the classrooms do not have air conditioners or only have window units. Many of the students tell News 12 New Jersey that the lack of breeze did not provide any relief with opened windows.

Most of the classes were let out by around noon and after-school activities were canceled for the rest of the day.

Temperatures are expected to stay above 80 degrees for much of New Jersey over the next several days.
