LINDEN - Workers discovered blood and dead animals at a Union County cemetery Thursday.
Workers arrived at the Rosehill Cemetery, off Routes 1 and 9 in Linden, to find six bloody machetes, six dead chickens, another injured bird and blood on several tombstones in sections 38 and 50. It appeared that some sort of religious or cult-related ceremony had taken place.
Police say the SPCA was immediately contacted and that their investigation is focusing on the materials that were left behind.

Linden Mayor Richard J. Gerbounka calls the incident disturbing. He says police hope fingerprints lifted from the machetes left behind will lead to an arrest.
The cemetery was promptly cleaned, and all traces of blood were removed from affected tombstones.
