BRICK - Service has been restored to a number of Verizon cellphone customers in parts of Monmouth and Ocean counties after an outage that started yesterday afternoon.

Store employees have said it was a network problem. However, the Ocean County Sheriff's Department said on its Facebook page that Verizon was having an issue with its cell towers.

Many customers expressed frustration with the issue and the lack of answers from Verizon. Some even went to their local Verizon store to see if there was an issue with their phone.

Residents say they first noticed the issue yesterday at around 2:30 p.m. There is no official word from Verizon as to how many customers have been affected.
