RIVER VALE - A Bergen County judge will decide if a 9-year-old girl battling brain cancer will be reunited with her therapy dog after the German Shepherd was accused of mauling another young girl.

Molly Kimball's family, who own the pooch, named Ava, say that the 14-month-old service dog was playing with a girl living next door when the dog accidently lunged forward and bit her on the nose.

Molly has had six brain surgeries in the past four years and her family says that on bad days, when she can't walk well, Ava literally supports her.

The Kimball's neighbors say they don't want the dog put down, but would like to see her retrained.

A district court judge will decide whether Molly can bring Ava home next Tuesday.
