Senate panel approves Anne Patterson for state Supreme Court

TRENTON - Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) nominated Anne Patterson for a seat on the state Supreme Court more than a year ago. A hearing was finally held today after the nomination was tied up in a fight between the governor and Democrats.

Patterson is a former corporate lawyer and Mercer County native. She appeared unfazed by the controversy surrounding her nomination. Christie picked her to replace a justice he refused to re-nominate, which infuriated Democrats. After a year of negotiations, state Senate President Steve Sweeney and the governor finally agreed on a deal to schedule her hearing.

In the end, she was approved by the committee, a move pleasing many on the panel.
