EDISON - With gas prices on the rise, Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) is introducing legislation aimed at reducing the cost at the pump.

The bill, titled the American Oil for American Families Act, would forbid oil or petroleum products that originate from public lands to be exported to foreign countries, thus increasing the supply available for U.S. consumers.

Menendez says the United States is now exporting more oil products than it imports for the first time since 1949.

For some drivers, however, the idea of increasing domestic supply won?t actually help decrease prices since they feel the actual cause of higher prices is trouble in the Middle East and fuel speculation.
