EDISON - U.S. Sen. Cory Booker says that allegations that Russia interfered with November’s presidential election should be investigated.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Monday that two congressional committees will investigate a CIA report that said Russia deployed hackers to disrupt the presidential election.

“Some people want to view this through a partisan lens. But this rises so much more above partisan politics in America,” Sen. Booker says. “This is illegal actions taken by a foreign government to undermine our democracy... So this is a time of great alarm.”

President-elect Donald Trump has dismissed the report because he says it was “partisan.” He says that it is not clear who did the hacking.

One of Trump's potential State Department picks, former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, alleges that it is possible that the hacking incident was a "false flag" operation and left open the possibility it was done by the Obama administration. A false flag is an operation designed to look like it was perpetrated by someone else.

The White House has denied that claim.

The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
