HOBOKEN - Mass transit riders in New Jersey could be paying more for their ride in the new year if lawmakers let a federal mass transit benefit be slashed.

Sen. Bob Menendez was in Hoboken Friday urging lawmakers to pass a permanent extension of the transit benefit. He says lawmakers from rural states without mass transit are standing in the way.

If Congress fails to pass the extension, the mass transit benefit would be cut from $245 a month to $130 a month.
