NORTH BERGEN - Authorities are taking no chances after a written threat to "shoot up" North Bergen High School was found written on a desk.

The school's 2,800 students will be subject to a metal-detector search and students will not be allowed to bring backpacks on the campus Friday.

They had to remove everything from their lockers on Thursday and police dogs swept the building.

The district says it will use the incident to remind students that the threat, even if it's a joke, carries serious consequences.
