JERSEY CITY - The search will continue for the body of a Cranford woman who police say was killed by her boyfriend in his Union Township home.

The Union County Prosecutor's Office believes 43-year-old Matthew Ballister beat his 43-year-old girlfriend April Wyckoff to death sometime Tuesday evening. Investigators believe Ballister then drove around for hours in a light green 2005 Hummer H2 looking for a place to dump her body.

Wyckoff's car was dumped in Newark.

The search effort Friday concentrated inside Liberty State Park in Jersey City. Search teams have been walking along railroad tracks, freeway ramps and into the brush to try and find Wyckoff's body.

More than 100 officers and K-9 units participated, combing areas in Hudson, Essex and Union counties.

Family members tell News 12 New Jersey they are in pain and trying to focus on Wyckoff's memory. Her brother, Nicholas Schenesky, says she was "a terrific mother and a great person."

The prosecutor says Ballister isn't saying where Wyckoff is. His mother, Eleanor Schofield, has also been jailed. Police suspect she may have helped her son cover up the alleged murder.

Investigators also checked security cameras in and around the park, looking for video that may shed light on where the body was dumped.

The search is expected to resume Saturday morning. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Union County Prosecutor's Office Detective Robert Henderson at 908-527-4126 or 908-347-2686.
