Sea Girt dog walk benefits vets with PTSD

There were paws-a-plenty in Sea Girt on Saturday for a very special charity dog walk.

SEA GIRT - There were paws-a-plenty in Sea Girt on Saturday for a very special charity dog walk.

All kinds of dogs, from German shepherds to boxers, showed up for the K-9 Sergeant Denny Dog Walk. The goal is to raise money to place service dogs with veterans suffering from PTSD and other battle-related injuries.

Army veteran Chris Hoff, of Keansburg, served two tours in Afghanistan. His dog Guinness, a French mastiff, helps him deal with the anxiety he still suffers from his time in service.

"He knows that when I'm having a bad day he'll actually become a lap dog and will sit on me," Hoff says. "I had a bad night last week, he had no problem jumping on my bed and sits on me. Ten minutes later we are both sound asleep."

Over the last four years, the organization has placed 17 service dogs with soldiers. A service dog can can cost as much as $15,000.
