Schools low on snow days after October snowstorm

HOPATCONG - School districts throughout New Jersey that lost snow days to the remnants of Hurricane Irene in August now are losing days this week, too, because of snow-related power outages and tree damage.

The Hopatcong school district says it has used up all the snow days allotted for this winter. All the Hopatcong Borough schools are expected to open today except Durban Avenue Elementary.

Summit Public Schools and Tewksbury Township Schools remain closed today.

The number of lost school days is forcing some districts to consider trimming their winter or spring vacations to ensure school doesn't stretch into July.
