PINE BEACH - School was back in session today at Pine Beach Elementary School after three people were killed when their vehicle slammed into the building yesterday.

The crash wasn't discovered until a school employee found the crumpled vehicle at around 6:45 a.m. yesterday. The cause remains a mystery.

This afternoon, friends gathered at Winding River Park in Toms River for a candlelight vigil. Autopsy results for 20-year-old Matthew Budesa, of Pine Beach, who was driving, and front-seat passenger Kimberly Van Gorden, 20, of Beachwood, showed they died from multiple traumatic injuries. Autopsy results for the man in the back seat of the car, 21-year-old Matthew Witzgall, of Toms River, have not yet been released. All of the autopsy results are considered preliminary at this point, pending further investigation including toxicology results.

According to an APP.com report, a source tells the newspaper that drugs, at least some of which were pills, were found in the 2011 Hyundai Accent that crashed.

According to authorities, none of the victims were wearing a seat belt and no skid marks were found. The relationship between the three victims is unclear.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective John Hill of the Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes and Vehicular Homicide units at 732-929-2027, ext. 3225.
