BOGOTA - Bogota police are warning residents about a scam targeting Spanish-speaking residents.

Police say the calls are coming from Puerto Rico and victims appear to be selected at random.

The scammers are calling saying they are holding a relative hostage, then ask the victims for money in exchange for the relative's release. In some cases, scammers asked for several thousand dollars.

So far, no one has actually wired the money. Bogota police are asking any residents who get the bogus calls to immediately contact police.
