SANDY HOOK - The closure of Sandy Hook park due to the government shutdown has forced the cancellation of the Jersey Shore Half-Marathon.

The race was set for Sunday and 1,200 runners were ready to participate.

The park closure forced park rangers to turn away beachgoers who were hoping to enjoy the shore today.

They were met with a sign outside the park that simply stated, “Sandy Hook is closed due to the government shutdown.”
