SANDY HOOK - A beach on Sandy Hook that was closed Wednesday due to high levels of bacteria in the water was reopened Thursday.
Beach “D” was sealed off from swimmers by the National Park Service. A spokesperson for Sandy Hook told News 12 New Jersey Wednesday that test results Tuesday showed elevated levels of enterococcus, a bacteria that could be linked to sewage.
The water was retested and the levels of bacteria were deemed safe. The beach was reopened.
This was good news for beachgoers, as temperatures reached above 90 degrees Thursday.
