LAMBERTVILLE - Some couples have wasted no time in getting married today following the legalization of same-sex marriage in New Jersey.
Marsha Shapiro and Louise Walpin say they religiously married more than 21 years ago and have raised four children together. Their lawsuit paved the way for same-sex marriage in New Jersey.
At one minute past midnight last night, Lambertville Mayor Dave Del Vecchio married the two in one of a handful of midnight wedding ceremonies across the state.
Today, Gov. Chris Christie withdrew his appeal to the state Supreme Court, saying the court has spoken clearly as to its view of the New Jersey Constitution and, therefore, same-sex marriage is the law.
Meanwhile, some same-sex couples say they had problems getting marriage licenses over the weekend because local clerks said they didn't get "clear guidance" from the state on issuing them.
