LAKEWOOD - Recent fires and crimes are raising questions about safety in Tent City in Lakewood.

Two people were stabbed in Tent City a week ago. There have also been two fires within 50 yards of each other, including a fire in a tent over the weekend.

Tent City started six years ago for the homeless and now has about 80 people. Officials say a steady flow of donations keeps everyone fed. A typical tent is set up with a wood burning stove and a bed.

Lakewood has tried to shut the tent city down, but a court ruled a year ago that the people couldn't be forced out until Ocean County sets up other places for them to live.
