NEW BRUNSWICK - Several New Jersey churches paid tribute to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy by ringing their bells at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Brunswick chimed its bells 10 times in honor of Kennedy.
"We're ringing it in solidarity with a lot of other cities around the country that have called to have the bells rung at this hour, at this moment when the shots rang out 50 years ago," says Pastor Joseph Kerrigan. "For someone who's not aware of it, they're going to hear the funeral tolling here and hopefully that will cause some mindfulness and something good to happen in those few minutes."
Kennedy is the only Roman Catholic to have become president.
