NEW BRUNSWICK - Hundreds of Rutgers University students have joined a nationwide protest against the immigration policy of President-elect Donald Trump.

About 80 colleges across the country are participating in the protest, which began around 3 p.m. The protest is mainly about the immigration policy, but other students say they are also protesting against the election in general.

Still, other students say the protest is about bringing the country together and to try to find a compromise on immigration.

Trump has said that he plans to immediately deport millions of undocumented immigrants who have criminal backgrounds. But some fear he will soon go after all undocumented immigrants.

Some of the Rutgers students at the protest tell News 12 New Jersey that they were raised by undocumented parents and grandparents who got them to be where they are today. Those students say that they do not want mass deportation.

New Jersey is one of six states with the highest undocumented populations.
