NEW BRUNSWICK - Rutgers University will have increased police patrols today after an anti-Muslim flier was found on campus.

The poster called for a "Muslim-Free America" and was found taped to the wall of the Paul Robeson Cultural Center, a building used by Muslim students for programs and daily prayers.

An identical poster had also apparently been found at the University of Texas, according to the New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

The bottom of the poster says it was from the group American Vanguard, a white supremacy group whose website says "it's time to take a stand" against white Americans becoming a minority.

American Vanguard claimed responsibility for the Texas fliers on its website.

CAIR called for an increase in security after the flier was found.

A spokesperson for Rutgers says the poster was taken down because it violates the university's values and ideals.

"We strongly condemn this kind of speech and are appalled that our Muslim community was targeted in this way," the spokesperson said in a statement.

The incident was referred to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's office.

Both Rutgers University police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the incident and have increased patrols near the cultural center.
