NEW BRUNSWICK - Authorities say a pickup truck hit and killed a Rutgers University student from California who was trying to cross a busy highway yesterday morning.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office says Chelsea Traynor, 21, was riding her bicycle on George Street and was crossing Route 18 in New Brunswick when she was struck by a pickup truck driven by Roger Hode, 40, of South River.

Traynor was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner's Office showed she suffered blunt-force injury.

Anyone who may have seen the incident is asked to call Patrolman Smith, of the New Brunswick Police Department, at (732) 745-5005, or Investigator O'Lone of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at (732) 745-3315.
