NEW BRUNSWICK - Today, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the World War II memorial at Rutgers University in New Brunswick in honor of Veterans Day.

James Hughes, dean of the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, says it's important to continue to remember those who served.

"I think most Americans, most New Jerseyans are now realizing the sacrifices that veterans have made," he said. "They were volunteers, they served our country, they protect our way of life. And it is appropriate to honor them as best we can."

The parents of a student veteran who died unexpectedly this spring were at the event.

They presented money their son, Matt Georgi, raised for veterans' scholarships at Rutgers shortly before he died.

Ceremonies around the state are being held over the next few days ahead of Veterans Day on Monday.
