PISCATAWAY - Rutgers says defensive tackle Eric LeGrand, who was paralyzed from the neck down making a tackle against Army on Oct. 16, has been transferred to a spinal cord rehabilitation center.

The Rutgers athletic department said yesterday that LeGrand has been admitted to the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange for the next phase of treatment. The new facility will provide advanced treatment and equipment needed in his recovery efforts. LeGrand had been under care since the accident at Hackensack University Medical Center.

The 20-year-old junior from Avenel was injured while making a tackle on a kickoff return.

Rutgers said updates on his condition would be issued by the family through the school. LeGrand's mother Karen said her son "is in good spirits and anxious to take the next step in his rehabilitation process."
