EDISON - Rutgers football defensive coordinator Dave Cohen is being accused of allegedly bullying one of his freshman football players.

According to the Star Ledger, defensive back Jevon Tyree claims that Cohen verbally abused him in front of teammates in April.

Tyree says that after the incident, his standing on the team plummeted, along with practice repetitions and any shot at playing time.

Tyree's parents told the newspaper serious disciplinary action should be taken against Cohen.

A Rutgers spokesperson says head coach Kyle Flood spoke with Cohen and the entire coaching staff and has handled the matter. The university also says staff members have met with Tyree to address their concerns and his future with the team. Rutgers says Tyree had intially decided to remain on the team and believed the matter had been resolved to the family's satisfaction.

The university says Tyree voluntarily left the football program Nov. 6.
