NEW BRUNSWICK - A popular Rutgers University bus driver says he was forced to resign after he placed his hands on a woman's wheelchair and asked God to heal her.

Officials at First Transit, the bus company that runs transportation for Rutgers, say Stan McNeil chose to resign after he was approached about his failure to properly secure the woman's chair in accordance to safety rules.

McNeil is well known amongst Rutgers students for his inspirational speeches that he delivers from behind the wheel of the bus he drives.

The driver says he accepts his fate even though he doesn't completely understand his dismissal and suspects his prayer and faith may have forced him off the bus. "I know my faith is strong and I just want to continue to progress in my faith," McNeil says.

McNeil admits he may not have followed safety measures, and that the bus company is allowed to bar prayer.

"I always wanted to get on his bus, just to be on his bus," says Rutgers student Julia Fasano.

Online student petitions are calling for McNeil to be put back in the driver's seat.
