HOWELL - Authorities in Howell have reopened Route 9 between Casino Drive and Strickland Road after heavy rain and storms overnight flooded the roadway.

Traffic backed up for miles into Freehold Township as Department of Transportation officials inspected the bridge over the Manasquan River after flooding sent debris rushing into the span.

Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden says more than 50,000 vehicles cross the bridge during both the morning and evening rushes.
