EAST BRUNSWICK - A roof fire temporarily caused an evacuation at the Brunswick Square Mall in East Brunswick.

The fire started in one of the solar panels on the roof above the Macy’s around 10 a.m. Thursday.

Shoppers and mall employees were forced to leave the mall while fire crews worked to put out the flames.

East Brunswick officials say that the cold weather made fighting the fire difficult.

"It just made it more challenging because it's colder,” says East Brunswick Police Lt. Kevin Zebro. “The firemen that are battling the fire have to actually seek shelter at a certain time just because of the cold temperature and the wind."

No one was hurt during the fire.

The mall has been reopened for business.
