Rockaway Township issues boil water advisory

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP - Officials have warned thousands of Rockaway Township residents to boil their water before using it after many woke up to find brown, murky water coming from their faucets.

Rockaway Township residents are also under an outdoor water ban.

Superintendent for Municipal Utilities at CLIP Robert Sheard believes that nearby well drilling caused clay to break lose and fall into the water system. Officials say the system has been flushed out.

Although they do not believe the clay was harmful, they implemented the boil water order as a precaution.

Officials are hoping the boil water order will be lifted by Tuesday, but have given no word on when the outdoor ban will be over.
