RAHWAY - Police have made an arrest in the murder of a Rahway mother.
Bloomfield resident Roberto Grillo, 36, was charged with murder in connection to Yolanda Vega’s death. Grillo is known to the family, but authorities have not said in what capacity and have not released a motive for the murder.
On Saturday Vega’s husband Freddie Hernandez and friends gathered outside her home to remember the mother of two boys. Hernandez said that she was a loving mother.

“Now I’m here basically alone, trying to raise two boys. It was a lot easier with Yolanda. She was a great mother,” he said.
Vega was found dead inside her home in the early morning hours of Dec. 7. Police determined that she had been strangled. That afternoon, neighbors told News 12 New Jersey that Vega’s teenage son had told her that a masked man was seen leaving the house on the afternoon of Dec. 6 and Vega was reported missing.
Investigators were able to identify Grillo as a suspect in the murder. He was already in custody at the Union County Jail. He was arrested on the night of Dec. 6 for allegedly trespassing at the Phillips 66 Bayway Refinery in Linden. Police say he was arrested about 90 minutes after Vega was determined to be murdered. The refinery is less than a half-mile from Vega’s home.
Grillo’s bail has been set at $2 million.
