RIDGEWOOD - Town officials in Ridgewood have begun publishing the addresses of blighted properties in an attempt to get action from absentee homeowners.

The town says that if letters and tickets don't work, the next step is public shaming.

There are currently a half-dozen abandoned homes in the neighborhood. They include homes on Daniel Court, Fairway Road and Van Buren Street.

Residents like Jamie England say something must be done. "First of all, they're gross to look at," she says. "It brings the property value of the rest of our houses down." England says the abandoned homes have also become a haven for animals.

Neighbors say they got a letter saying one of the abandoned homes on Van Buren was bought and will be taken down. However, they say they've heard that before and there wasn't any action taken.
