BELMAR - Dozens of residents hit the boardwalk in Belmar Sunday to take advantage of the warm winter weather.

Temperatures away from the coast climbed into the lower 70s. Temperatures closer to the coast were in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees, due to the marine influence.

The weather has been unusually warm for this time of year, with most areas averaging 9 degrees above normal temperatures for the month of December.

According to the National Weather Service, more than three dozen cities along the East Coast broke high temperature records this weekend.
