FAIR LAWN - An 18-month-old pitbull found badly wounded by an off duty police officer back in November is now ready to be adopted.

The pup, named Rocco, is believed to have been the victim of illegal dog fighting. He was found under a bridge in Newark with a fractured leg and covered in bite marks.

Officials say the leg was infected and had to be amputated, but that Rocco is doing well and getting better every day.

The ASPCA estimates tens of thousands of people are involved in dog fighting, even though it's a felony in every state. It has been illegal in New Jersey for more than 20 years.
