EDISON - New Jersey has some of the cleanest beaches in the country according to a report released today by The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

However, New Jersey and New York saw more than 1,000 beach closings last year, the second-highest level in decades. Stormwater and sewage runoff are the main, but not the only, causes of waterway pollution, which forces beach closures.
