MIDLAND PARK - Work is underway to repair a sinkhole that a Department of Public Works vehicle fell into while responding to a call.

The collapse happened Thursday night near the intersection of Glen and Woodside avenues while utility crews were investigating an issue with a sewer line.

Officials say an older sewer line broke underground, causing water and sewage to spill into the street. That break also caused part of the roadway to collapse.

The gas had to be turned off to one home while the repairs are being made.

Officials say that they are trying to decide whether or not to replace the sewer pipe or divert the line someplace else.

Work crews say that they will work around the clock to patch the hole so that the road can be passable once again.
