WILDWOOD - Officials in Wildwood are drawing heat for their decision to remove some memorial benches from the boardwalk.

Late last year, town officials ordered the older, wooden benches on the boardwalk to be replaced with new, durable blue metal benches.

But in taking down the old benches, the city also removed special memorial plaques that dozens of people had paid to have installed.

Many of the plaques were placed in memory of deceased relatives, while others marked special life moments that had occurred in the city.

City officials say they're working to address the concerns and hope to have a new program in place sometime in the near future.
