Remains on NY beach highway tied to 1996 discovery

YAPHANK, N.Y. - (AP) - Detectives investigating the discovery of10 sets of human remains along a Long Island barrier beach parkwayhave linked one of them to body parts found 15 years ago, severalmiles away.

The remains were found in April near Jones Beach. Police saidTuesday they've been matched by DNA testing to body parts found in1996 on Fire Island.

Suffolk County homicide detectives believe one or more serialkillers may be responsible for many of the killings.

Police also released sketches of two of the unidentified victimsin hopes that someone will come forward with information.

Detectives have received more than 1,200 tips since the firstbodies strewn along Ocean Parkway were found in December.
