MARLBORO - Two religious groups often seen as adversaries came together in a show of unity and understanding during a vigil Thursday held by the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom.

The vigil was held a Temple Rodeph Torah, where the group started its grassroots effort two years ago. The group says the current political climate has really put more focus on its efforts. The goal of the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom is to fight the hate, intolerance and prejudice that exists between some Jews and Muslims.

"We stood up and we said we are all here together, we all live together, we are neighbors [and]  we want to learn from one another," says Shira Stern, a rabbi at Temple Rodeph Torah.

Members of the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom say they have seen more interest in their group because of some of the policies being put forth by President Donald Trump. They say they want to show that two religions can overcome hatred and misunderstanding.
