HOBOKEN - A bird believed to be a red-tailed hawk has been seen perching on trees and fire escapes around First Street in Hoboken.

The bird of prey was first spotted in the city Monday. Many residents have been gathering outside taking photos of the hawk. Some tell News 12 New Jersey that they fear the bird is hurt.

Animal control officers have been to the area to check on the hawk, but have been unable to trap it. They say that they do not have any plans to remove the hawk from the area, but are monitoring it in case it shows signs of distress.
