RED BANK - A Monmouth County organization is stepping up its efforts to help those in need as the holidays approach.

Lunch Break in Red Bank says it “provides life’s basic necessities - food, clothing and fellowship for our community members in need.”

The organization was started in 1983 in Shrewsbury with the mission of helping the hungry in the area. Lunch Break churns out hot meals 6 days-a-week, gives out groceries from its food pantry and participates in a number of other growing assistance programs.

Five years ago, Lunch Break served about 60 families a month. In October, the organization served 800 families and is on track to serve more than 1,000 this month.
